I grew up in a small country town in Illinois. After graduating high school I decided to move to sunny AZ for college. Two years later I met my husband in 2008 and we've been inseparable ever since! We got married in November, 2010 and saved over the next year to buy our first (fixer upper) home. Over the course of another year we gutted and remodeled almost every square inch of our home. Finally, by 2012 we had a house that we couldn’t love more! Mostly because we did almost everything together and by ourselves. My husband and I LOVE a good DIY and LOVE saving money :)
Shortly after finishing our house we found out we were pregnant with a girl! I was so excited, and couldn't wait to start decorating her nursery! While we were designing her nursery we wanted to make sure every detail was perfect, so that meant countless DIY projects. In late spring of 2013 we welcomed our daughter, Odette, and she has been the greatest little addition to our family! I left my job as a home health nurse to stay home with her full time. It has been by far the most fun, exhausting and rewarding job ever!
Fast forward 6 months and we decided that we finally needed to open up an Etsy shop together. Odette’s nickname is Dette (DET-TY) Cakes so we thought that is where are shop name came from! My husband loves woodworking and I love anything girly so our shop is a great reflection of our personal styles combined.
This blog is a chronicle of our daily life with our little Dette Cakes! I love sharing our daily life, DIY projects, recipes and everything else that randomly pops into my mind. Thanks so much for visiting :)
